ARTIST STATEMENT
Naomi Deyell is a Vancouver-based multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, poetry, and ink drawing. Her practice explores themes of intersectionality, sexuality, mental illness, and the lingering impact of religious repression. Drawing from her Japanese–Scottish heritage and ex-Mormon upbringing, she examines how cultural and societal forces shape female identity and embodiment. Through a blend of psychological inquiry and personal narrative, her work creates a visual dialogue on adversity and resilience.
Currently a psychology student at the University of British Columbia, Naomi is pursuing a future in counselling and art therapy, which deepens the reflective and healing dimensions of her creative practice.
